I am a Beatitudes addict and this is a lovely presentation!

    • Pastor Wade, It was 24 years ago on Feb.23 this year I was saved at Calvary Chapel thank-you for starting the petition for Pastor Chuck. Your words are kind and these two words have been running though my mind. I guess I am trying to get a deep understanding of humble and meek. For the way Jesus understands these words and the way the world understands them are so different in understandings. Would you like to add to what I have presented? May God Bless with His love and wisdom as you serve His children, Amen.

  2. Oh to be found to be both, humble and meek! Thanks for this post!

Thank you so much from my Heart Dear James for this Words! They hit my heart and Soul, because the Truth only can do that! And no one has words like you!
    Abundant Blessings!

  4. Hi James thank you for sharing, it’s interesting how the Dictionary defines humility and meekness, when we look at Jesus life on earth and we know that He was a very humble man and yet He felt free to express His emotions and personality and we too can do this, they are gifts from God. Jesus cried and expressed righteous anger and I’m sure He didn’t whisper the same as when He was speaking to thousands on a Hillside. He was known as a man of sorrows and aquainted with grief. God tells us not to sin in our anger, which means we don’t hold onto bitterness and resentment which gives Satan a foothold. Jesus also shared who He was with assurance and Pride in being the Son of God, in His anointing and role on earth, He came to us in man’s flesh but He was conceived by The Holy Ghost and is part of the Godhead or Trinity as They are called today, Three in One and was in The Spirit with The Father and Holy Spirit, from the beginning.

As you shared James, worldly pride is very wrong but Godly Pride we all need to have ( see below) without it we will accept what we do as just our own ability and not thank God and we will become self -centred and egotistical, for men this is evident in marriage by their male chauvinism and being dogmatic instead of having sacrificial Love to their wives and for woman it is shown by their lack of submission in their role as helpmates to their husbands who were created to be in Leadership and are their Spiritual Authority under God and by seeking to be in Authority in the Church and to teach in this position, which is also the role of men.

    *What Worldly pride is…

Mark 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

1 John 2:15- 17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the Pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

    * What Godly Pride is …

Galatians 6: 4 Each one should understand their own actions. Then they can take Pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to others.

2 Corinthians 8:24 show these men the proof of your Love and the reason for our Pride in you, so that the Churches can see it.

2 Corinthians 5:11-12 Because we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. It is plain to God what we are, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are giving you an opportunity to take Pride in us not trying to commend ourselves again to you , so that you have an answer for those who take Pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.

Romans 11:13b I take Pride in my Ministry.

As a Christian James I also take Godly Pride in my Ministry to those who are in darkness, and rejoice with those who are not as I’m sure you do too and also who I am in Christ Jesus but as far as worldly titles, degrees and positions of importance or fleshy knowledge and wisdom, they are mankind’s foolishness when they become their main focus and they depend on them for self-worth.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne

    • Anne, Yes, Yes, Yes! Worldly pride and heavenly pride again two different things, again like worldly wisdom and the wisdom of God. Same words just viewed from different perspectives eyes of flesh or eyes of heaven! Thank-you for such well written comment, again God Bless.

      • Thank you James and what you shared is very True, there is indeed eyes of flesh and eyes of Heaven, although not understood by some. As we know there is also Translation error in the Bibles today and fleshy understanding in our Scriptural help books, this is why we Trust in Jesus not man to lead us into all Truth and He also shows us these errors too.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

I seem to have lost you with my crashed Computers and the problems I was having with the Blog but as I was looking for something today I found you and this Post and it made me ponder again after reading some of your responses.

Our Abba Father tells us to become like Children, Jesus was willingly dependent on His Father too, Trusting Him in all things like young children do with their Parents, believing and not doubting in His Goodness, God is Love and cannot do evil, even to bring good out of it.

Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.

Luke 18:16-18 But Jesus called them unto Him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

Do you like Christian Music James?

        Blessings – Anne.

      • Oh Anne, I am not sure how I have missed you wonderful comment this Long, very sorry! Yes I do love Christian Music! You might want to know I am best listen when I sing only if your are ten or twelve miles away from me! Blessings Anne! 🙂

  5. I was amazed by this post and went to Strongs to look up these words and what I found was very interesting in that they both basically spring from the same root word! Humble is H6031, root word-Anah means: 1) to answer, respond, testify, speak, shout a) (Qal) 1) to answer, respond to 2) to testify, respond as a witness b) (Niphal) 1) to make answer 2) to be answered, receive answer 2) (Qal) to sing, utter tunefully 3) (Qal) to dwell
Authorized Version (KJV) Translation Count — Total: 329
    AV — answer 242, hear 42, testify 12, speak 8, sing 4, bear 3, cry 2, witness 2, give 1, misc 13

Meek is H6035 Root word is: `anav which means: 1) poor, humble, afflicted, meek
    a) poor, needy b) poor and weak c) poor, weak and afflicted d) humble, lowly, meek
But then the Primitive root word is: `anah same as for “Humble”.

I also foound `anah’s meaning to be fascinating in comparison to the comment by @Freedomborn – Set Free Eternally. This really explains a lot to me.

    Great post James…Yah bless you!

    • Sharon, You are a treasure, you might be on to something! Now let us go back and look at a few things for 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Matthew 5:5 : Who is doing the writing, Who is doing the speaking, When was this spoken and to whom, What is the context of which is was spoken; What I mean is do not let these verses stand alone in meaning, What was going on at the time and what was the culture of the time?
      Now I am going to throw two new verses into the mix please examine then under the same light: Psalm 113:5-6;
      Who is like the LORD,
      Who dwells on high,
      Who humbles Himself to
The things that are in the
      heavens and in the earth?
Again I must ask myself; What might it mean to Yeshua to be a humble and meek child?
      Yah Bless you too, Amen.

  6. This is an excellent post for self examen, which is necessary when you are trying your best to walk in the way! What helped me the most was the word, “managable” in the meek description. Manageble: as in self control and not allowing my emotions to run things in order to be a better servant of God to others. Thank you so much for posting!

P.S. I haven’t made a new blog yet but am working on it.

    Thank you for serving Him,
    Trail Blazer79

    • Trail Blazer79, Just Love that name, so much mystery! Sends my boyish mind into a land of adventure! Did I ever tell you about the time I was an Arizona desert duck rancher? Oh, my A.D.D. just running away with me again! Have totally forgotten what I was trying to say, does that ever happen to you?
Thank-you for such a great and kind comment I have been so very much blessed by it helping you. This post just started out as a meditation on the word humble and grew from there. The wisdom is from God and to Him I give all glory, Amen. God Bless!

      • Arizona desert duck rancher? From what years? I didn’t see that part in your testimony! As for A.D.D. yes, thoughts do escape, but I’ve become better at chasing them down!

Thank you again for sharing your faith and for blessing this audience! God does give all good things to those who ask!

        Praise the Lord!
        Trail Blazer 79

  7. Hi James, well these two words humble and meek, in definition to the Word of God describes the walk and the character of Christ in the lives of Christians living a new hope. That we are longer bound to our old nature but that of our Savior.

Thank you James, pursuing Scripture opens our eyes.

    • Tahlitha, Paul states it best in Philippians 2:5-11: about Christ and being humble. You have amplified those words into our lives to which I say Amen and Amen. In the words of Paul I echo; The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Amen.
